Welcome to Asia's Best Golf Holidays
Welcome to the October 2020 edition of Golfasian’s “The Asian Golf Insider”, your go to source for the latest Asian golf travel insider news and updates.
With global Covid-19 related ICU admissions and mortality rates decreasing sharply, it gives us great hope that international travel will resume fully in the coming months.
Thailand, Vietnam and many other Southeast Asian countries have in recent days extended their lists of travelers permitted into the country and are looking at decreasing the duration of the quarantine. This will hopefully lead to a full opening of borders and zero quarantine in the coming months - watch this space!
For updates on each country covid-19 situation, please click on the respective country flag. We will also keep this updated weekly so you can check back for the latest updates:

Golfasian has been SHA (Safety & Health Administration) accredited by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in September 2020. As Thailand is slowly preparing to re-open its borders for international golf travelers, an initiative by the Tourism Authority of Thailand has provided a selected number of tour operators and DMCs who underwent stringent safety & health checks with the SHA (Safety & Health Administration) accreditation. The stringent measures include frequent deep cleaning of Golfasian vans before each service, drivers wearing masks and frequent washing of hands. All customers will be provided with masks and free hand sanitizer upon arrival. Temperature checks before entering the vans and before golf and sightseeing activities are now standard. We are also making use of QR codes for digital in-van golf guide brochures and provide touchless payment. Our drivers and the operations team are well trained on standardized safely protocols required by the governments strict guidelines.

In conjunction with his Faldo Design team and Laguna Golf Lăng Cô Director of Golf, Adam Calver, Sir Nick has created a new, coastal par-3 to add an original hole at the award-winning course he designed and opened for play in 2013. The newly-added feature hole was recognized as an opportunity to stage an idyllic natural links experience, with panoramic views of the course’s neighboring beach and mountain backdrop framing the extraordinary setting.
IMG Designed Hilltop Valley Golf Club in Hanoi will open its third 9 holes on October 10th, adding to the existing 18 hole layout that is proving to be very popular with Hanoi based golfers.

SOUTHEAST ASIA COVID-19 UPDATES
|
|
Thailand
The first wave of the pandemic ended after 100 days passed without a community transmitted virus case. The Thai government is expanding the groups of foreigners who can enter Thailand. On September 28, the government also approved the Special Tourist Visa (STV) for tourists from low risk countries for stays of 90 days. Those interested should contact their nearest Thai Embassy to enquire about the STV.
|
Vietnam
Vietnam has gone over a month without domestic transmission of the coronavirus. It has so far recorded 1,096 infections, of which 38 remain active. From September 22, Vietnam is resuming international commercial flights to six destinations: Guangzhou, Taiwan, Seoul, Tokyo, Phnom Penh, and Vientiane. Currently the country is only offering entry to diplomats, experts, investors and their family.
|
|
Malaysia
Malaysia remains closed to international tourists currently. Covid-19 is currently under control; restrictions are steadily being lifted and the government is working on a solution to reopen its borders to international tourists. The country is operating under moderate travel and business restrictions, known as the ‘Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO)’, which is scheduled to remain in place until 31st December.
|
Indonesia
Indonesia’s borders remain closed to international arrivals for the time being. New cases of Covid-19 are still relatively high, so the Government has postponed plans for reopening until the domestic – and international – situation has stabilised. The CDC still has Indonesia under a Level 3 warning, meaning all non-essential travel should be avoided. Government officials are suggesting the country may likely reopen in early 2021.
