Welcome to the December 2022 issue of the Asian Golf Insider, the source for news-breaking information about golf in Asia. Also, unique golf-playing tips for South East Asia's tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and fantastic upcoming tournament information are all parts of this newsletter.
Can you believe it's the last month of 2022? I don't know where this year went, as things have been non-stop since mid-year.
I hope this newsletter finds you in holiday spirits.
With winter descending quickly in the Northern Hemisphere, Southeast Asia and its tropical climate are the perfect destinations for travelers from Europe and North America to escape winter. Arguably the best time of the year for golf in Asia, these months are sometimes called the winter season, and while far from cold, sunny and dry days are ideal for golf. Timing varies slightly from country to country based on the effects of the annual monsoons, but generally, the peak golf season is December to March, when the weather is driest and coolest.
At Golfasian now, we handle a record number of golf travelers, so thank you to those who have traveled or are here. If anyone had asked me to predict things earlier, I would have marked them nuts to proclaim such astounding golf travel statistics. The shortage and cost of flights remain the significant obstacle to golf tourism as most carriers haven't resumed flights and frequencies. The good news is the supply-demand imbalance is changing, so for those interested, keep checking with the airlines; 2023 is the year to get back to regular golf travel.
On the events side, the inaugural Pullman Invitational is this week, and I can't wait to return to Pattaya. Next is the Hua Hin Skins, followed by two majors, Centara World Masters and Pattaya Men's. The two events in June are about to sell out, even as we have seven months to go. Does anyone want to bet 2023 will be a bumper year not only for individual travel but also for Asian golf tournaments too?
