Thailand is the quintessential powerhouse of the South East Asian tourism industry. Naturally, Bangkok and Phuket Island are the most iconic destinations within Thailand, but often overlooked is the city of Hua Hin. Hua Hin is Thailand’s oldest beach resort town and is conveniently located on the west of the Gulf of Thailand, merely 200 km from the country’s capital. It has proven to be one of the best getaway destinations the country has to offer, be it local or foreigners, it has something for everyone. If you seek peace, solitude and want to get away from your troubles, Hua Hin is the first place you should try and visit. Enjoy walks through the streets of this beautiful coastal village, sample the local cuisine and play a round of golf (or two) on one of the several world class golf courses the town has to offer.

Must See

Huay Mongkal Temple

Your Hua Hin experience is incomplete if you do not get a chance to visit the Mongkol Temple. It is home to a larger than life statue of monk Luang Phor Tuad. All roads of the town eventually lead to this temple, as a countless number of Thai Buddhists make the trip to pay their respects to this esteemed personality. A lot of tourists also flock the temple over the weekend as it is considered by many a tourist attraction (rightly so!). The Temple is located within 10 km of the city of Hua Hin.

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation

If you happen to be a wild life and nature enthusiast, this place is a must. They provide you elephants for trekking where each trek last about an hour or hour and a half. This is especially fun with your family and kids enjoy this experience more than adults. For a little bit of extra cash, you can buy a ‘mahout experience’ which allows you to be an honorary caretaker of an elephant from morning to noon. The foundation is genuinely looking after and taking care of these elephants, all the money generated by trekking is ploughed back into the foundation and is spent on improving facilities for elephants.

Must Play

Hua Hin is arguably one of the premier golfing tourism destinations in the world, let alone Asia. With courses like the Black Mountain Golf Course and Banyan Golf Course, it is easy to understand. These golf courses are well maintained and are surrounded by beautiful mountains and scenic vistas. Whether you are a golfing enthusiast or you are teeing off for the first time, you are guaranteed to have a great time. Both courses are par 18 and designed by renowned curators and golf players alike. You will have to hire a caddie for your round, but they are not expensive, and tend to enhance your golfing experience with their local knowledge. Caddies are mostly females, so be generous when you tip at the end. Typically, a 300 Baht tip will suffice and will be received with a smile.

Best Hotels

Centara Grand Beach Resort is an excellent choice for families and couples alike. The resort offers both Villa and hotel style accommodations. It is located on a private beach. The hotel boasts of exceptional service and is ideally located within a stone throw of the shopping district and local restaurants bars and pubs. Hua Hin is a quiet yet marvelous town, good for those who seek peace and quiet, an escape from the hustle and bustle of our daily routine.
