QUANG NAM, Vietnam (April 21, 2010) – Colin Montgomerie officially opened the golf course he designed and bears his name. A festive atmosphere pervaded Montgomerie’s first full round at the course, as he followed ribbon-cutting ceremonies by birdying the first hole and going on to shoot 68, a course record.
The day’s activities included a clinic for club members and guests at the Montgomerie Links Golf Academy. Montgomerie was also joined during his round by members and representatives of Indochina Land, the project’s developers, who played in three-hole rotations with the 2010 European Ryder Cup Captain and eight-time Order of Merit winner.
Montgomerie pronounced himself "delighted" with the way his design had been executed, adding that the completed golf course exceeded his expectations. Indeed, since his last visit roughly two years ago, Montgomerie Links has been voted best new course in Vietnam and is already a key component in a fast-growing golf-and-beach development scene in and around Danang.
