(Greg Norman signature course through dunes and jungle surroundings)
PGA Ocean Golf Course at Novaworld Phan Thiet is one of two 18-hole golf courses inside a 1,000-hectare integrated resort complex. Phan Thiet is famous for its blue sea, white sand, golden sunshine, and predictable climate all year round and is on the southern Vietnam coast adjacent to the East Sea.
Ocean Course is the first licensed Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) club in Vietnam. The Greg Norman signature design is a coastal style and plays to over 7,400 yards. Novoworld uses the latest grass varieties to ensure excellent year-round playing conditions.
The Phan Thiet golf course plays on dunes and through dense vegetation. A design feature of PGA Ocean is various tee options that can change the playing distance from each teeing ground by up to 100 yards. Natural rugged styled bunkers that transition into native areas mix with the indigenous landscape to create an outstanding balance between nature and the sculpted turf. Greens feature subtle undulations and often are muti-tiered. Changing wind conditions allows for versatility & variation in the daily course setup.
Standout holes include the par three 5th hole - a downhill par-3 offering sea views and small stamp green protected by a front-facing bunker and sharp runoffs. Club selection accounting for wind is critical to making par. The back nine starts with a long par-4 that doglegs right away from the sea. A drive over the corner leaves an easier shot to the green but risks getting into the waste bunker lining the entire fairway. This hole sets the scene for an even more challenging PGA Ocean holes eleven to eighteen. These offer safer and longer routes to the par-4's and par-5's and aggressive lines that shorten the course but pose more difficulty.
Holes 13, 14, and 15 are the course centerpieces and known as the Shark Loop. The
13th is a short par -5 from an elevated tee and reachable in two shots when
played correctly. The 14th is a drivable par-4 and probably the only golf in Vietnam to have a chance for back-to-back eagles. The Shark Loop completes on the 15th - a 650-yard par-5 with a complex approach shot to a two-tier waste bunker protected green.
Facilities at Novaworld are first-rate. Warm-up areas include a 325-yard range, short game practice areas, an 18-hole putting course. Other amenities include multiple F&B outlets, two of Vietnam's best on-course kiosks, a well-stocked pro shop, and luxury changing rooms. All of this, combined with the PGA Ocean Course setting, elevation, and sweeping sea views, makes for a genuinely memorable Vietnam golf experience.
