(9-hole municpal golf course)
Wing 23 Golf Club, operated by the Thai military, first brought the game to this part of North-Eastern Thailand in 1991. The short 9-hole layout is flat and fun for a day out, especially for less competitive golfers.
Traditional courses require walking, and Wing 23 is no exception as golf carts are unavailable. That said, it's nice that all holes are next to one another, and there are numerous large shade trees for cover from the sun. Caddies do most of the hard work of pulling the golf bags and are senior enough to give good advice around the greens.
Most holes are straightforward, though there are a couple with bunker complexes around the greens. The best hole is number seven, a par-5 dogleg right with a creek to carry on the drive. The eighth is also a decent layout: a par-4 dogleg left with two large bunkers fronting the green. Maintenence is not an international standard, especially after heavy rain, but neither are the green fees.
An adequate-sized nicely-styled clubhouse added in 2010 includes a pro-shop, restaurant, and modern locker rooms. Overall, Wing 23 is an excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Udon Thani, and with USD 10 green fees, it won't break the bank either.
