Dragon Hills Golf & Country Club

Dragon Hills Golf Club is an 18-hole layout spread over 2,400 acres of lush natural mountainside jungle. Jim Enge, an American who worked with Nicklaus design, was responsible for producing this excellent layout.

Local golf looking to get away from Bangkok mostly visit this track. The course setting is in the middle of forested jungle, valleys, and hills. Dragon Hills offers a combination of undulating fairways and greens, lateral water hazards, carries over water, doglegs, and strategically located sand traps. The scenic background makes for a pleasurable round of golf.

The back nine holes are particularly impressive, as they play through environmentally preserved parklands. The signature holes are 10, 11, and 12. Hole-12 plays to an island green, downhill about 170 yards. Unusually, there are three par 3’s, three par 4’s, and three par 5’s on this back nine, making it a real challenge with no easy holes. The par 4's and par 5's play long, with well-placed hazards and sloping back to front greens.

A small rustic clubhouse and on-site lodge provide ample, but not fancy, facilities and accommodations. In any case, most golfers come here for the scenery in western Thailand and depart after their round.

I really liked this course despite its obvious, money related problems. The layout is fantastic as Nicklaus design is always excellent. The 11th is a tremendous par 5. The rest is basic, and perhaps the most Tom Yum Gung crisis affected resort Ive visited. The resort is in the middle of nowhere and hard to find, even with sat-nav. It is far from everywhere. You get what you pay for as the price is cheap and all the problems are secondary to the golf course. If you like good design, it is a hidden gem, if you like sumptious conditioning, this is not for you.

Have today (21.2.14) played at Dragon Hills. What a disappointment! The course has the potential of being fantastic - great layout in beautiful surroundings, but the whole place is really badly maintained. Fairways heavily overwatered in many places and littered with leaves, buggy paths very rough and bumpy, bunkers poor with weeds and/or muddy sand, average greens, and buggies very old (ours had very poor brakes). We wonder if the Club has run out of funds?? What was also disappointing was the 2 hour journey from kanchanaburi - our driver was excellent so there is no way that it is only 60 mins as stated on your website. On holiday one does not want a 4 hour round trip to a very disappointing golf course which is supposed to be a must play hidden gem.
