Calatagan Golf Club

Calatagan is a club perfect for the golfers and visitors who wish to experience a truly relaxing golf experience. It is however 129kms south of Manila, and can take over three hours’ drive to reach this area.Most of you won’t drive all that way just for golf, but this means that those that do, will be blessed with having the fairway mostly to yourself. Sure, you’ll see a few other golfers at the clubhouse, but once on the course, you’ll be enjoying millionaires golf in a very beautiful region by the sea.Calatagan Golf Club was built in the 80’s by Don Enrique Zobel and Robert Trent Jones, Jr and is a par 72 6,799-yard course.The fairways are carabao grass while the greens are covered with zoysia matrella, both of which are species endemic to the Philippines. Not entirely a bad thing, especially since it’s usually in excellent condition.The fairways are generally firm and the greens fast, and you may be surprised at just how fast the greens roll, particularly in the summer.Blessed with hilly topography and an abundance of trees, the course seems to have been carved out of a forest. It enabled Jones to design some truly dramatic tee shots, then Don Enrique enhanced Jones’ handiwork by planting a variety of flowering trees and shrubs throughout the property. African Tulips, Kalachuchi, Bougainvillea, and Golden Shower dot the property.Calatagan is a definitely a shot maker’s course; a balanced mix that will entertain, challenge and yes, punish you if you stray from its tree lined fairways.The clubhouse is expansive with a large Veranda that makes the most of the stunning landscape.Nestled within a quiet Southern Metro town, the club offers one of the best natural and eco-friendly golf course designs in the country.Maybe worth booking a place to stay in this beautiful part of the country, and booking a round at one of the golf courses on the drive back to the city.
