Cebu’s highest mountains are over 1,000 metres high. The island’s total area is 4,468 square kilometers, making it the 9th largest island in the Philippines. It supports over 3.5 million people, of which 2.3 million live in Metro Cebu. Its capital is Cebu City, “The Queen City of the South“, is the oldest city and first capital of the Philippines, which is politically independent from the provincial government.

Mactan–Cebu International Airport, located on Mactan Island, is the second busiest airport in the Philippines, as the island is very popular with tourists. Beaches, coral atolls, islands, and rich fishing grounds surround Cebu, and the climate of Cebu is tropical.

The island’s climate is warm and humid year-round, with a rainy season June–November. However, their Typhoons are most likely during October–December. There are two seasons in Cebu − the dry and wet season. It is dry and sunny most of the year with some occasional rains during the months of June to December. The province of Cebu normally gets typhoons once a year or none at all. Cebu’s temperatures can reach a high of 36 °C (97 °F) from March to May, and as low as 18 °C (64 °F) in the mountains during the wet season. The average temperature is around 24 to 34 °C (75 to 93 °F), and does not fluctuate much except during the month of May, which is the hottest month. Cebu averages 70–80% humidity.
