Miri Golf Club Description:
(one of the oldest golf courses in Malaysia)

The Discovery of oil in 1905 brought wealth, prosperity, and tremendous growth to the then small fishing village of Miri. The expatriates from the Netherlands and England drove the establishment of Miri Golf Club in 1910. Today, Miri has evolved into a bustling metropolis.

The first six holes of the existing course were constructed in 1924 by Sarawak Oilfield Limited, the forerunner of Sarawak Shell. It is only a 15-minute car ride to Miri Golf Club from Miri Airport or 25-minutes from the city center.

The Miri Golf Club location is among the rustic surroundings of a Malay village on top of a picturesque sandbar between the Miri River and the South China Sea. However, only a stone's throw away from the Miri city center, separation by the Miri River offers a worry-free hideaway and the hustle and bustle of the city not seen. The 18-hole golf course lies on flat land bordering beautiful white sandy beaches. The early course designers successfully added strategic water hazards and bunkers to make up for the seemingly flat and 'easy' terrain. Surrounded by tall and ancient Casuarina Pine trees, Kelab Golf Miri has a unique beauty.

The signature par-3 twelfth hole presents a birdie chance at only 150 yards. However, with water stretching to the threshold of tiny green, it is not uncommon to see even single handicappers posting scores of double bogey or worse.

Kelab Golf Miri is a full-featured sports club with a well-stocked clubhouse, pro-shop, and practice facilities. The Malaysia golf course suits both expatriate and visiting golfers.

The service from start to finish was excellent (late changes to room requirements, number of players etc not a problem). Effective communication was maintained from start to finish. A very fair price for the services provided (I make a lot of trips to Thailand for golf so I know the general costs of hotels, transport, golf if you book directly). I like to use a service provider for larger groups to avoid all the administrative hassle and this is the second time I have used Golf Asian - it will certainly not be the last time. They take all the pressure off the planners/organizers, which meant we could all relax and enjoy the holiday. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
